4th Annual
Tournament - Spectacular!
Wonderful people, good
golf, excellent food and fun made the 4th Annual Dean's Pharmasave
& CEDA Reactor Mattawa Hospital Charity Golf Classic a resounding
success once more!
The winners
of this year's tournament were the Awesome Foursome, a
team made up of Brian Leipert, Pauline Lafreniere, Norm Bradley
& Angela Bradley with a wonderful -11 score. Well
done! An amazing -9 on the front nine - wow! Brian & Paulie
came in from Regina to play (although Paulie is from Mattawa)
and the Bradley's joined us from Sudbury.

Our
only small drawback this year was that unfortunately, due to an
unforeseen family emergency, Jeff Hutcheson could not make the
event. Although he sent us his best wishes and encouragement and
has promised us for next year! Thank you Jeff!
The
cruise down Champlain Lake on Tuesday evening, proved to be exciting
again this year with a fabulous welcome from Anne & Rick at
L'Auberge des Pionniers. Along with the beautiful tasty snacks,
Rick & Anne opened up their resort to 13 pontoons! The weather
too co-operated by sending away the showers and bringing out the
sunshine just as the flotilla set off. We then had the amazing
talent of Wayne Junior performing his Tribute to Elvis in the
beautiful setting of Lake Champlain. Elvis was in the house!
The
wonderful cooking talents of Brigitte & Paul Duhaime
prepared amazing ribs and chicken skewers, provided by Algonquin
Nursing Home, and gorgeous salads, provided by Mattawa General
Hospital. Well over 100 people enjoyed this great evening as a
lead up to the golf tournament.
Golf
on the Wednesday started with breakfast, provided by Mattawa General
Hospital and the Algonquin Nursing Home, providing participants
a chance to recant tales of the previous evening's entertainment.
Those lucky enough to be playing in the tournament, as we still
had a waiting list, then set off under the direction of CPGA professional,
Jeff Mancini (North Bay G & CC Director of Golf) and his 2
assistants Boo & Matt. The weather again was sunny and warm
for players to make some fantastic scores! Coming in a close 2nd
this year with a -9 were the foursome of Paul Swindle, JC Belanger,
Gary Lacelle & Dillon McGee - last year's champions The Mattawa
Mights.
Of course
this event has to thank Scott Clark for his many wonderful talents,
including his golf skills. Players had a chance to beat Scott
on hole #2 to win a sleeve of balls provided by Canon, along with
a chance to win credit for "The Million Dollar Ball Drop"
which will be hosted at The North Bay Golf & Country Club
raising funds for Community Living. Another great cause. Mike
Campbell was our winner for this gaining a $500 credit. Great
shot Mike!
Again
we had the great pleasure of having Nipissing MPP, Monique Smith
return to play. She has been a staunch supporter of this event
and we appreciate that, especially this year with encouraging
things to say about the projected early start of the building
of our new facility. We also had notaries such as Mayor Dean Backer
(Mattawa), Mayor Bob Corriveau (Papineau-Cameron) along with our
2 Gold Sponsors Brian Chute (Dean's Pharmasave) and Brian Fitzmaurice
(CEDA Reactor). Thank you for the incredible support!
One
of Scott's specialties is to extract money (in the nicest possible
way) from our players and guests for the wonderful auction items
we receive in donations, and this year the live auction made an
astounding $13,000! New this year was a great idea by Debbie Wilkins
to have building blocks on the tables for the construction of
a hospital. Every table got into this with conviction and wonderful
imagination. Monique Smith, Scott Clark & Ted Darby went around
to judge and decided that the Volunteer table topped the list!
Many
of our players and guests traveled from all over to participate
including Edmonton, Edmunston, Regina, Ottawa, Toronto, Sudbury,
North Bay, Timmins, & Barrie.
