5th
and Final Tournament (2007) - Simply Stupendous!
A
score of 62 (-12) was the winning total for The Tree Choppers,
otherwise know as Janveaux Forest Products. The team consisted
of Roly Ribout, Cory Lacelle, Wayne Chaput & Gaeten Asselin
playing their first Mattawa Hospital Charity Golf Classic.
An unprecedented, yet spectacular day made the 5th and final CEDA
Reactor and Bondfield Construction Mattawa Hospital Charity Golf
Classic a resounding hit once more. With Jeff Hutcheson and Scott
Clark providing continuous entertainment during the FUNky Cruise,
right through the golf day and auction. Over $63,000 was raised
this year bringing our total for the five years to over $207,000!
Unbelielable!

Trophy
presented by Wayne Fitzmaurice of CEDA Reactor, Mattawa |
From the moment the
flotilla of pontoon boats (13 in total donated by various Lake
Champlain residents) set off down the historic waterway to the
final moment of the golfing banquet the atmosphere was full of
fun. Jeff Hutcheson and Scott Clark were amazing in their quick
witted repartee. Jeff fulfilled his promise to attend the tourney
from last year when, due to unforeseen family circumstances, he
was unable to make the event. He managed to pay a visit to the
new site of the Mattawa General Hospital building and also he
made a few people happy at the existing site by paying a quick
visit, along with getting the insight of what we have been trying
to achieve with this venture.
The cruise to
L'Auberge des Pionniers proved once more that Mattawa has
some of the most beautiful scenery for people to enjoy along with
a fabulous welcome from Anne & Rick and their wonderful buffet.
The incredible cooking
talents of Brigitte & Paul Duhaime
prepared succulent ribs and chicken skewers, provided by Algonquin
Nursing Home, and gorgeous salads, provided by Mattawa
General Hospital. The evening BBQ was held at the lakeside home
of gracious hosts Linda and Barry McConomy. Well over 120 people
enjoyed this great evening as a lead up to the golf tournament.
Providing the entertainment was Bev Bell of The
Moon Cafe (Mattawa) and Brittany Whalley
(Mattawa) who both had the audience enthralled. So much so that
Jeff Hutcheson decided to take them out again on the pontoons
afterwards to sing for him and few late nighters!
Golf
on the Wednesday started with breakfast, provided by Mattawa General
Hospital and the Algonquin Nursing Home, providing participants
a chance to recant tales of the previous evening's entertainment.
Under the direction of CPGA professional, Jeff Mancini (North
Bay G & CC Director of Golf) his 3 assistants Dave Byers,
Matt & Boo kept the pace and quality of the tourney superb.
Various games were played including longest drive, closest to
the hole, skins and ball tossing. Coming
in a close 2nd again this year, with a -11, were the foursome
of Paul Swindle, JC Belanger, Gary Lacelle & Dillon McGee
- The Mattawa Mights.
Again
we had the great pleasure of having Nipissing MPP, Monique Smith
return to play. She has been a staunch supporter of this event
and we appreciate that. This year proved special as we had a Liberal
& Conservative team playing and providing their support. Players
included Hon. Mauril Belanger (MP for Varnier, Ottawa), Norm Miller
(MPP for Parry Sound/Muskoka), Bob Wood (former MP Nipissing),
Al McDonald (former MPP Nipissing) and Bill Vrebosch (conservative
candidate for Nipissing)

Other
notaries included Mayor Dean Backer (Mattawa), Mayor Bob Corriveau
(Papineau-Cameron) along with our 2 Gold Sponsors Wayne Fitzmaurice
(CEDA Reactor) and Ralph Aquino (Bondfield Construction) Thank
you for the incredible support!
A sumptuous
prime rib meal, under the skillful direction of Jim Russell of All Ocassions Catering, was followed by an unparalleled auction, courtesy
of the new comedy act of Jeff Hutcheson & Scott Clark! An
amazing $26,000 was gently extracted from the more than willing
audience including a telephone bid from Guy Moison in Edmunston
to purchase the Clermont Duval original! The beautiful tables
for the banquet were designed by Debbie Wilkins with a native
feel this year, in that every participant received their very
own named Inukshuk - to help them with their life journey.
Many
of our players and guests traveled from all over the country once
again to participate in this worthwhile cause for which we are
eternally grateful. Thank you!
Jeff
Hutcheson brought the house down with his comedy act along
with Scott Clark during
the auction
